This bison skull is a rendering of a commissioned painted buffalo skull titled “Birds Eye View”. Using just pen and ink, Jess created depth and texture of the original skull. This is a black-and-white illustration with the intent to not compete with any other decor style.

This skull’s design features a topographic map of Mount Sneffels, in the San Juan Mountain range between Ridgeway and Telluride. The silhouetted mountains in the lower half of the skull are that of the Tetons, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The original painted skull has two eagles circling the center of the mid-century-modern style “sun” that are not illustrated here. This was intended to maintain the unique customization the commissioned piece holds.
